Our flagship pack. Made for thru-hiking, day-hiking, and everything in between.
A fully accessible ultralight pack
The Cutaway is a frameless backpack designed to improve accessibility while on the move. 28 liters at its smallest, it can expand to roughly 40 liters when using the extension collar and all 8 exterior pockets. The recommended carrying capacity is 25 lb, but this limit can be pushed for short periods of time, such as for water carries. All exterior pockets can be accessed while wearing the pack. If you don’t want to stop throughout the day, you don’t have to.
A comfortable ride
We designed our straps without structure so they can contour to your body and eliminate point loading. The straps are constructed using a breathable mesh, allowing you to dry out faster. Both chest straps can be height-adjusted to meet your needs.
Get your perfect fit
Our new modular system allows you to mix and match packs and straps for a more personalized fit and look. This system will also allow you to set your straps at various widths, replace pieces independently, and allow you to build your pack for the conditions you will be experiencing.
These packs are made to order. Select your Cutaway pack fabric and pack size here. Once you have purchased your pack, an option form link will be included in your 'Order Confirmation' email where you can select strap size and additional color options. We also have a few add-ons to choose from which will increase the price and weight of the pack.
To purchase only made to order packs or only made to order straps by themselves, please email us at email@example.com.
Lead times are currently 4-6 weeks. As more orders are placed, this lead time may grow.
Tax and shipping included on all domestic orders over $200. Shipping charges will be added to international orders at checkout.
If you want your pack made in a pack fabric we don't stock, you can send us a yard cut of fabric (36" x 54"+) and we will make a pack from it for $215 (straps included). Select 'Supply Your Own Fabric' in the pack fabric drop-down.

210d Robic Nylon
Weight - 4.4 oz/sy
Price - $
Composition - 210d Robic Nylon Ripstop with a PU Coated Interior
This fabric is very strong and durable for the weight, and is the least expensive body fabric we use. The PU coated interior makes the fabric waterproof, but the nylon fibers will absorb moisture. This means exposure to wet conditions will add weight to your pack and cause the fabric to sag.
Weight - 3.4 oz/sy
Price - $$
Composition - 70d Nylon Ripstop, Non-Woven Polyester Face
When considering price, weight, strength, and performance, LS07 is a great Goldilocks fabric. While not the strongest or the lightest on this list, it does blend the strength of nylon with the water-repelling properties of polyester (no sag and limited absorption) at a relatively low cost and lightweight. Great for humid and wet environments.
Weight - 4.8 oz/sy
Price - $$
Composition -70d Nylon Ripstop Face, Polyester X-Ply, 0.25 mil PET Film, 50D Poly Taffeta Backing
VX07 is a durable composite, blending the durability of a ripstop nylon with the waterproofness of a film backing and the strength and stability of a polyester X-Ply. This fabric does not experience sag and is a great do-it-all option.
210d HDPE Gridstop
Weight - 4.8 oz/sy
Price - $$$
Composition - 210d Nylon Ripstop with an HDPE Grid, PU Coated Interior
If durability is your main concern, go with 210d HDPE Gridstop. A classic fabric in the ultralight community, 210d HDPE Gridstop has stood the test of time and has the potential to last many thousands of trail miles. The PU coated interior makes the fabric waterproof, but the nylon fibers will absorb moisture. This means exposure to wet conditions will add weight to your pack and cause the fabric to sag.
2.92 oz DCF Hybrid
Weight - 2.92 oz/sy
Price - $$$$
Composition - 1.43 oz/sy Non-Woven Dyneema Laminate, 50D Polyester Face
For many, the price tag of 2.92 oz DCF Hybrid is worth it. It is the lightest pack fabric we use, and is incredibly strong. The fabric absorbs no water, and is great for wet conditions. Repairs using DCF tape are easy.
Water Bottle Pouches
Dyneema Stretch Mesh
Weight - 9.3 oz/sy
Price - $$$$
Composition - Nylon 6.6, Dyneema, Lycra
If you plan on brushing up against granite, branches, or anything rough, Dyneema Stretch Mesh will help you maintain the integrity of your pack.
Pack Sizes Smaller - 18 in/46 cm Taller - 20 in/51 cm
Strap Sizes Short - 17.5 in/44.5 cm Medium - 19 in/48 cm Long - 20.5 in/52 cm
The Cutaway pack currently comes in two sizes – Smaller and Taller. Without a hip belt, both sizes will ride comfortably on most people. Needs such as having a particularly large or small torso, having flexibility issues, or needing the smallest possible pack volume can dictate which size you select.
Poor Flexibility: If you have flexibility issues that affect your ability to access water bottles, select a larger pack height so that the pack bottom rides lower on your torso.
Small Pack Volume: If you expect to carry small volumes often, select a pack with a shorter pack height. It will have the same max volume but will pack down smaller.
Strap Length: (see video below) A measurement along the path of the strap can help you select your correct size. Select the size that more closely resembles your measurement. If in doubt, go up a size. If we do not currently offer a size that fits you, please let us know by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please follow these steps:
Stand up straight with your back against the wall.
Find the base of your sternum and imagine a horizontal line traveling across your rib cage. For women, this will be at or close to your bra-line.
Determine if you would like to wear your straps wide or close in on your chest and find a point on the horizontal line that would represent this strap position.
With a measuring tape or string, measure from this point up over the middle of your shoulder, and to the wall behind you at the same height as the top of your shoulder.
There is a 1-year limited warranty covering functional defects in Nashville Pack and Equipment Company manufacturing and materials. Defects will be repaired if possible. If not, a replacement will be issued. We will reimburse shipping if the issue is found to be a defect per the terms of the warranty.
We encourage all of our customers to contact us if they are having any issues with our products. We want to know where we can improve, and will handle these issues on a case by case basis.
We can also do repairs for a fee. We’d rather not see our packs anywhere but on the trail.
Refunds or exchanges can be issued for unused products. Shipping is at the expense of the customer.
At the end of the day, we want you to enjoy the outdoors. We’ll do whatever we can within a reasonable scope to make that possible.
